July 3, 1944.It offers courses like :- Degree Science (Honours) Degree

P.G. Courses etc.
St.Xavier's College is the very own college of the Indian World Cup
winning Cricket Team captain M.S.Dhoni.. The college is registered under
the Registration of Society Act XXI of 1860 under the local title
'XAVIER'S RANCHI'.
The Executive Committee of the NATIONAL ASSESSMENT &
ACCREDITATION COUNCIL has accorded St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, an
affiliated college of the RANCHI UNIVERSITY, Jharkhand, with GRADE A, in
2013.
St. Xavier's College, Study room was established in 1944, It was
Called Meletre Baraque and was situated in front of the Principal's
office. It was the combination of library and study room. In 1960 it was
Shifted in the Arts Block. and in 1996 the Stock room was enlarged
under UGC, for the sake o students. St. Xavier's Study room is always
open for the student from 6.00 am to 8.30 pm.
St. Xavier's College has been conferred Autonomous Status by UGC
through its letter No. F.22 -1/ 2005/ (Desk-AC) dated July 9, 2005 for
six years from 2005-2006 to 2010-2011 AND 2011-13

St.
Xavier's College, Ranchi, is named after St. Francis Xavier, one of the
founding members of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits. A
Jesuit saint of the 16th Century who travelled to India, Francis Xavier,
born Francisco de Jasso y Azpilicueta (7 April 1506 – 3 December 1552)
was a pioneering Roman Catholic missionary born in the Kingdom of
Navarre (currently Spain-France) and co-founder of the Society of Jesus.
He was a student of Saint Ignatius of Loyola and one of the first seven
Jesuits, dedicated at Montmartre in 1534. He led an extensive mission
into Asia, mainly in the Portuguese Empire of the time. He was
influential in the spreading and upkeep of Catholicism most notably in
India, but also ventured into Japan, Borneo, the Moluccas, and other
areas which had thus far not been visited by Christian missionaries.
